Together With

You’ve almost made it to the weekend, congratulations🎉

I know you’re busy, so I won’t keep you here.

Here’s what’s in Friday’s edition:

  • Last Winter Market

  • The woman who loved birds

  • Changes coming to South and Creasy?

  • The events section

Oh yeah, the answer to Tuesday’s trivia question was Columbian Park Zoo

Beyond Gallery & Gift Shop isn't your average gift shop. Tucked right here in Lafayette, it's part art gallery, part creative playground. You will find the place stocked with DIY craft kits, original art, prints, jewelry, stickers, cards that'll make you laugh, and gifts you won't find anywhere else.

Their products span local artists, small-batch makers from across the country, recognizable brands, and fair-trade pieces that make sure every creator gets a fair shake. They also host six gallery exhibitions a year (four of them open call, always free to display) so artists at every level get a shot at the wall. As one regular puts it, it's the shop in Lafayette most likely to make you smile.

The Final Winter Market of the Season

The Lafayette Winter Market is going out on a high note.

Catch the last one this Saturday, April 4 from 8 am to noon at the 501 Bistro Atrium at the Lahr Building. Indoor, family-friendly, and packed with your favorite local vendors. Plus, there will be a live acoustic performance from Ariel Yater.

It’s supposed to be a rainy Saturday, so you might as well spend it inside with some great local vendors.

Also, if you’d like to become a vendor for the upcoming 2026 Farmer’s Markets then you need to get your application in by April 8th.

The Naturalist of Bird Acres

Born in Vermont in 1862, Eliza Dana Weigle married into Lafayette's German-immigrant Weigle family and spent roughly fifty of her years in Tippecanoe County. During this time, she raised four children, wrote poetry, and she studied birds. And she did it all from a stunning Italianate estate at 1021 North 21st Street that she called "Bird Acres."

In 1907, she published In an Old-Time Garden, and Bits of Nature Verse which was her collection of nature poetry. Twenty years later, she landed an article in the Wilson Bulletin, a peer-reviewed ornithological (study of birds) journal, documenting House Wren behavior that she'd observed right there on her property.

She died in 1947 at 84, but Bird Acres still stands and is currently listed at $1.175 million. I wrote about this in Tuesday’s edition of the newsletter.

Lafayette Eyes Big Changes for the South Street and Creasy Lane Corridor

The Lafayette Redevelopment Commission approved a traffic study for the South Street and Creasy Lane corridor at its March 26th meeting. The study, led by T-Bird Design Services and Shrewsbury Engineering, will focus on the northeast quadrant of the intersection. This is the stretch behind Lowe's and DNR Market that runs south toward Riviera Maya.

It's one of the most congested areas on the east side. And it could get a lot busier. A conference center is among the developments being discussed for the area, along with new connector roads designed to improve traffic flow and safety. The commission acknowledged that nearby residents, including the Orchard Heights neighborhood, will need to be part of the conversation.

Don't expect shovels in the ground anytime soon. But, the study signals that the city is serious about figuring out what this corridor becomes next.
