In Friday’s Edition
Happy Friday, Lafayette!
Are you ready for the cold? And the snow? I know that everyone and their brother became a weather expert over the last week, but it does appear that we will get a bit of snow and a lot of cold starting later in the day Saturday and moving into Monday. And if you’ve been living under a rock, now you know!
While I have your attention, I have a quick question. It’s about the dinner club I’ve mentioned before (If you’re new or missed it, you can read more here).
When should we have our first dinner club?
Now, what you came here for:

One Restaurant to Try

Arni’s
Now, if you haven’t had Arni’s by now, what are you doing? (I’m joking. Kind of).
What better way to prepare for a snowstorm than to order an Arni’s deluxe pizza with an Arni’s junior salad? You could order enough for Saturday and enough to have leftovers so you don’t have to leave the house🤔

Did You Know?

Lafayette’s Founder
You’d think a city founded by a guy with the last name “Digby” would be called… Digby, Digbyville, Digbyanapolis, or Digbyborough right? Well that’s wasn’t the style of our city’s founder, William Digby.
William Digby founded Lafayette in 1825 at the strategic bend of the Wabash River, naming it after the Marquis de Lafayette during the French hero's famous American tour. But Digby quickly sold most of the town he'd platted and returned to the adventurous, up and down life he'd always known.
Born in Kentucky in 1802 and raised by his mother in Ohio, Digby apparently became an indentured servant in Winchester, Indiana. While he was there, he more than likely learned boating skills (his specialty for a while).
He worked as a riverboat operator and trader along the Wabash River in his early career. His M.O. was gambling, drinking, and fighting. In one legendary incident. He lost, won, then finally lost his house in a card game.
Digby seemed to be in an endless loop of winning big and losing big. He went from founding a city (he also founded Americus) to eventually sweeping coals off railways for work.
He died in 1864 at the age of 62 and is buried in Lafayette in the Greenbush Cemetery.
There you go, now you know a little more about our city’s founder. If you like that story, check this one out.

I say this in nearly every edition, but thank you so much for reading. It really does mean a lot to me. It’s a lot of fun covering everything going on around town and getting to know some of you all.
