Kürtőskalács Grand Opening
The Chimney Cake Bakery opens its doors Saturday, March 14 at noon, with a ribbon cutting shortly after.
They'll be serving up traditional cinnamon-sugar chimney cakes and boxes of kürtőskalács-style glazed doughnuts from a limited menu to kick things off. First 50 customers get a free luggage tag and spider plant with their purchase.
Worth swinging by if you're out and about Saturday afternoon.
And if you have no idea what a chimney cake is, check out the pictures above and this video.
Take a look at their menu and all the different options and flavors they have. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to trying a new dessert in town.

Registration for the Dinner Club ends on Monday the 16th at 6:30 pm. We only have 5 seats left! This is a great way to make new friends in town🙂

The Woman Who Lit Lafayette’s Churches
Edna Browning Ruby was born in Lafayette but her birth year is somewhat disputed (ranging all the way from 1869 to 1886). Her grandfather was the first of the her family to make the move to the new settlement. This was shortly after the town was laid out, building a homestead at 11th and Brown streets. Her father, Captain William Franklin Ruby, was a Civil War veteran.
Growing up, Ruby had extensive art training which included: metal work, miniature portraiture, and jewelry design. She gained recognition as one of the three most skillful women textile designers in the country. Then, in 1915, she took up the study of stained glass.
By the time of her death, she was the only woman in the United States who designed, built, and installed stained glass windows. Her work survives in Lafayette area churches today. You can see it at Elston Presbyterian Church in Lafayette and Stidham United Methodist Church in Shadeland, as well as two churches in Indianapolis. She also designed Lafayette's 1925 Centennial commemorative plate.
Ruby died on October 16, 1937, of heart disease. Even still, her work lives on all these years later.

Turning Empty Storefronts Into Free Mini Museums
The Haan Museum of Indiana Art pitched Tippecanoe County Council on a plan to fill five vacant downtown Lafayette storefronts with pop-up art exhibits. These would free and open to the public. You walk by, see something in the window, step inside.
They're calling it Museums Without Walls, part of a broader push tied to the America 250 celebration. The Haan was one of just 12 organizations statewide to receive an Indiana Arts Commission America 250 grant worth $5,000. Duke Energy has committed $9,000. Total project budget is $45,000, with $15,000 requested from the county's innkeeper's tax fund.
A companion symposium would bring arts leaders from across the state. The museum says people regularly travel two to three hours to attend Haan programming.
Council will vote on the request next month.
