Together With
In Friday’s Edition
We made. It’s Friday🙌
Before we get into the whats and the whens of this weekend, I wanted to take some time to learn more about you all. Everyone has a story of how they ended up in the Lafayette area and why they’ve stuck around.
I have lived in the Lafayette area for about 7 years of my life. 4 of those I was a student at Purdue. I moved away for a little bit, but came back as my family began to grow. My wife and I knew we wanted to live here to raise our kids.
A few of my favorite things in the area are The Farm at Prophetstown (gave a few years of my life to working there), marshmallow cokes from The Igloo, East End Grill (my wife and I’s first date dinner), and the people. The people here really are some of the kindest, most down to earth individuals you will meet. I know you already know that.
But enough about me, let’s hear your stories!
If you want to share what your story is, you can do that by replying to this email. I read every single reply that I get and I’m happy to read all that you send in! Feel free to include some of your favorite things about the area (these things might become recommended “things to try” in future newsletters).
If you haven’t lived here long, still share and maybe include some things you would like to know about the area!
For those who don’t want to type, I’d still love to know how long you’ve lived here (poll below).
How long have you lived in the Lafayette area?
Now, let’s see what’s going on around here:

Old News That’s Still Cool

Chickens in Lafayette
This is somewhat old news, but did you know that Lafayette residents can now keep backyard chickens? This came about from a city ordinance change that reversed the previous prohibition on chickens within city limits.
The new-ish rules allow small flocks of hens for personal use, with requirements for proper housing, maintenance, and consideration for neighbors. Roosters remain prohibited, and owners must obtain a permit and follow guidelines to keep coops clean and prevent disturbances.
The city plans to review the program in 2026 to decide whether to make backyard chicken keeping a permanent option for residents.
One Restaurant to Try

Old Buffalo’s Outpost Bar and Grill
Have you tried Old Buffalo’s before? This is my favorite wings spot in Lafayette (and maybe ever). That might be a controversial take, but they are so good!
My recommendation is to try both the Buffalo and Lambo, AND get them Char Buffed (thank me later). At 10 wings for $12.95, they’re also at a good price.

Did You Know?

A Downtown Lake
Downtown used to be home to a lake (more like a pond in depth). It even had a name: Lake Stansbury. This body of water would ebb and flow in size depending on weather and the seasons. A pain when it grew in size and a fun time when it froze over. Your route could get covered or you could ice skate on it.
The end of the lake’s life came in 1839 when the town board decided to finally take the water out and fill in the area.
I don’t know about you, but a boat ride downtown would kind of be cool in the summers.
