Market on Main

Lafayette is getting a permanent spot for locally grown and locally made goods. A new year-round farmers market is opening its doors, giving residents a dedicated space to shop fresh produce, artisan products, and more, no matter the season.

The market aims to connect local growers and makers directly with the community, bringing the spirit of a traditional outdoor farmers market indoors for 365 days a year.

To mark the grand opening, visitors can expect tastings and special promotions running all weekend long. It's worth stopping by early to see what local vendors are bringing to the table.

Loeb Stadium

For 86 years, Loeb Stadium (in one form or another) has been home to baseball in Lafayette. What started as a stadium to honor Solomon Loeb, Bert Loeb’s Father, has played a cool role in the history of this city. At that time, it was named Columbian Park Recreation Center.

Some of the names of the teams who have called Loeb ā€œhomeā€ include: the Lafayette Red Sox, Lafayette Chiefs, another Lafayette Red Sox, Lafayette Leopards, the Ohio Valley Redcoats, and the Lafayette Aviators. During its lifetime, the grounds have seen the likes of Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, and the Cleveland Indians (the answer to Monday’s trivia question).

From 1969-1971 and 1973-2017, Loeb was the host site for the Colt World Series where the best 15 and 16 year old baseball teams played every summer. Does anyone remember that? I’m sure there are some really cool stories and memories from that time.

By 2019, the old stadium had seen better days. After demolition, Lafayette invested $20 million to build a completely new facility that opened in 2021. Modern amenities were added while keeping that classic ballpark feel.

Ninth Street Storm Water Project Gets Major Design Change

I realize this might seem boring, but our city makes big decisions every week. And most of us never hear about them. These meeting shape the roads we drive on and the water we use. Part of what Lafayette Lookout aims to do is share small bits of updates from city meetings so you don’t have to sit through them, but you still know what’s happening across town!

The City of Lafayette is rerouting its Ninth Street stormwater project southward to Durkees Run, abandoning the original plan to send drainage north down Ninth Street hill to a stormwater pump station.

The design change, approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety, will allow stormwater to flow directly into the creek, eliminating the need for a pump station and reducing long-term maintenance costs. Engineers say the new routing also keeps stormwater out of the city's combined sewer system, preserving valuable capacity.

VS Engineering will handle additional survey and design work under a $221,800 amendment, bringing the total project contract to $874,875. The original contract was approved in June 2025.

City engineers called the revised approach "a much better project" that will be more efficient over time, delivering lasting infrastructure improvements to the Ninth Street corridor.
