Dog N Suds 70th Season

Opening day for Dog N Suds in on Monday, February 23rd (this coming Monday). That alone is worth mentioning. This is Dog N Suds 70th season in Greater Lafayette and to celebrate, they are offering half price coney dogs Monday through Wednesday.

So go ahead and treat yourself to a couple (or even a handful) of coney dogs and a root beer.

(Imagine him pulling up to Triple XXX)

The Triple XXX

In Tuesday’s newsletter, the trivia question was “which is Indiana’s first and oldest drive-in?” As you might have guessed, the answer is Triple XXX.

If you've driven past the orange-and-brown striped building on the hill at 2 N. Salisbury in West Lafayette, you've driven past a genuine piece of American history.

The Triple XXX Family Restaurant opened in 1929 and is both Indiana's first and oldest drive-in. Founder Bert Wright named it after the Triple XXX root beer brand, once a chain of over 100 "Thirst Stations" nationwide. Today, West Lafayette has the last one standing.

The Ehresman family has run it for decades. Jack and Ruth bought it in 1980. Their son Greg and his wife Carrie took over in 1999. Greg and Carrie got the bottling rights and recipe for the Triple XXX Root Beer brand in 2008.

Guy Fieri came (hence the gif). MSNBC named it Indiana's best diner. Nearly 100 years in and still a must-visit place when visiting campus.

Lafayette Renews Animal Sheltering Agreement with Humane Society for Greater Lafayette

The City of Lafayette officially renewed its animal sheltering contract with the Humane Society for Greater Lafayette (HS4GL) at this week's Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. The deal keeps the rate at $35,000 per month for 2026 and was approved unanimously, with board members expressing satisfaction with how the arrangement has been working.

HS4GL took over animal control duties for Lafayette, West Lafayette, and Tippecanoe County when it opened its doors on Sagamore Parkway South back in September 2024. The shelter spans about 17,000 square feet, with room for around 68 dogs and over 160 cats under one roof.

The nonprofit was established in 2022 and is run by Executive Director Josh Klumpe, who spent over a decade working in animal control for the Lafayette Police Department before stepping into the role.
